How long have you lived in Woodcreek, and what do you enjoy about living here?

I moved to Woodcreek in 2007, drawn by the beauty of the Hill Country and its natural surroundings. From the moment I arrived, I was embraced by the warmth of the people and their genuine willingness to welcome and support their neighbors. It didn’t take long to notice a unique quality in the residents here: a strong sense of activism and dedication to bettering the community. So many individuals see it as their duty to volunteer however they can, working together to make this a better place for everyone. It’s for this reason that I knew I had found my place—my community, my home.

What is your profession?

I am a caretaker and artist, and I am currently a servant of my city's citizens.

Why did you run for City Council?

I was inspired by the example set by the people in this community to step forward and volunteer to help others. While I sometimes feel a bit self-conscious about my deep passion for Representative Democracy and my desire to ensure the voices of this community are heard in local government, it’s an essential part of who I am. It may sound cliché, but it’s something my mother instilled in me from a young age—that a life well-lived means working to improve the lives of others.

What have you learned in your time serving on City Council?

I’ve always had a deep love for this community and its people, long before I ever ran for council. Since joining the Council, that love has only grown stronger. The number of talented and compassionate individuals working together to improve lives here truly humbles me, and I’m grateful to be part of that effort. On a personal note, I’ve discovered a genuine passion for researching and navigating the often complex system of codes and laws, with the goal of finding practical solutions to the issues that matter most to our citizens.

What are some of Woodcreek's biggest opportunities and challenges in the coming months and years?

One of Woodcreek's biggest challenges is the State Legislature's actions, which continue to erode a city's right to self-govern and shift that authority to the State level. This trend limits our ability to address the unique concerns of our community and its residents. For instance, take the issue of future water availability and the health of the aquifer that supplies it. The State has steadily reduced the tools our city can use to tackle these critical concerns.

However, I see an opportunity here. We are a community of passionate, engaged citizens who, when united, can overcome any challenge. While the State may be restricting our local governance, this could ultimately strengthen our community, pushing us to find innovative solutions we might not have considered before.

Additionally, one of the opportunities I’ve personally championed is for the city to actively seek and apply for grants to fund projects important to our citizens. These grants help reduce the city's reliance on property taxes, enabling us to pursue projects without burdening local taxpayers. I am glad to report that our city has received grants and continue to do so.

What is something interesting that you want residents to know about you?

I’ve cultivated a collection of Bearded Irises over the years, including several passed down from my grandmother. Each variety holds special meaning to me, as many were gifted by friends and loved ones, making them even more cherished. No matter where life has taken me, I’ve always made sure to bring these irises along. Unfortunately, some of the more delicate varieties haven’t thrived in the Texas Hill Country, but every spring, I still eagerly look forward to seeing my old friends bloom. While I’ve forgotten the names of many of them, I never forget the people who shared them with me. My first Bearded Iris, a classic purple variety still in my garden today, was given to me by a friend's grandmother in the late '80s. It’s called "Grandma's Purple Flag."
