The Hays County Sheriff’s Office has four Animal Control Officers (ACOs), patrolling 688 square miles, with the exception of the cities of San Marcos, Kyle, and Buda. The Animal Control Division strives to ensure the safety of the citizens and the humane treatment of all animals in Hays County. Hays County contracts with the San Marcos Animal Shelter. Any stray or impounded animal picked up will be housed at the San Marcos Animal Shelter. We make every attempt to locate livestock owners when stray or loose livestock incidents occur. We encourage all livestock owners to register with Hays County.
Just a reminder to all of our dog owners, Hays County has an animal restraint law: Your dog must be restrained at all times by fence, chain, or leash.
The mission of our office is to always maintain an efficient, professional, sensitive, compassionate and respectful manner while executing our responsibilities as peace officers in the State of Texas. We strive to have a well-trained through continuing education in all areas of law enforcement, as well as in the areas of protection of the public, sensitivity and diversity. Our goal is making our communities a safer place to live, work and raise a family.
